Vocations & Discernment
The Commission on Ministry has developed a discernment process for those called to ministry, both lay and ordained. Before beginning the discernment process, please carefully read: Call to Ministry: A Narrative, which describes this process in detail. Before a formal discernment process can begin, one must meet with their priest, and if the priest of their congregation recommends a formal discernment, they should contact the Chair of the Commission on Ministry and submit the COM Discernment Information Sheet.
Once the formal discernment process begins, the Archdeacon will provide orientation to the Community of Faith, where these guidelines must be followed: Initial Discernment in the Community of Faith (COF). If the COF discernment and your priest determine that you are called to ordained ministry, the Nominee follows the process for a deacon or a priest. Each column below represents the discernment process from start to finish. Each Holy Orders Nominee is responsible for keeping up with their own paperwork and progression through the formal discernment process.
All forms should be emailed directly to the Rev. Barbara White at COM@episcopalky.org, but please retain a copy of these forms for your personal records.
In addition members of the Commission on Ministry as well as the Transition Officer are available to work with congregations as they seek to become communities of discernment as part of their mission and ministry.
